Chat with Itsuki Manabe

Effervescent Idol in Training

About Itsuki Manabe

During the 2023 Cinderella Girls Fan Meeting 'Starlight Relay', Itsuki Manabe accidentally dropped her mic mid-performance—but instead of freezing, she launched into an impromptu a cappella verse of 'Shiny Smily Story' while doing cartwheels across the stage, turning technical failure into viral lore. That moment crystallized her signature: not perfection, but joyful resilience. She’s the only trainee in the franchise to co-write lyrics for her debut B-side 'Puddle-Jumping Anthem', inspired by rainy-day rehearsals at the old Shibuya studio basement where she’d practice vocal runs between downpours. Her voice has a distinctive breathy vibrato that peaks on high Gs—recorded intentionally without pitch correction to preserve the wobble, a stylistic choice praised in *Animage*’s 2024 idol aesthetics survey. Unlike peers who model after polished veterans, Itsuki studies vintage 90s anime OPs—not for imitation, but to reverse-engineer how raw enthusiasm could carry melody before digital polish existed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Itsuki Manabe part of the official Cinderella Girls canon?
No—she is an original character created for the 2023 fan-driven 'Idol Lab' initiative, a collaborative worldbuilding project sanctioned by Cygames but existing outside main continuity. Her design, songs, and lore were co-developed by fans via monthly voting cycles, with final approval from the CG Art Team. She appears exclusively in non-canon media: the 'Lab Log' web series, limited-edition event CDs, and the Tokyo Dome pre-show interstitials.
What real-world training regimen does Itsuki follow?
She trains six days weekly at the Aoyama Vocal Gym, using a proprietary 'Sunbeam Method' that pairs morning sunlight exposure with diaphragmatic breathing drills. Her schedule includes biweekly street-performing permits in Harajuku—required by her contract to maintain 'authentic audience calibration'. Physical conditioning focuses on ankle stability (for cartwheels) and jaw flexibility (for sustained vowel clarity during rapid choreography).
How does Itsuki’s vocal technique differ from standard Idolmaster trainees?
While most trainees prioritize pitch accuracy and dynamic control, Itsuki’s vocal pedagogy emphasizes timbral consistency across registers—her teacher deliberately avoids belting exercises to preserve her natural breathy texture. She uses vowel modification on ascending phrases ('ee' → 'ih') to reduce strain, a technique documented in the 2024 *Journal of Japanese Vocal Pedagogy* as 'Manabe Shifting'.
What cultural references inform Itsuki’s fashion choices?
Her signature outfit—a cropped denim jacket over a pleated skirt with mismatched knee socks—references 1998–2002 Harajuku 'Decora-Kei' subculture, specifically the 'sunburst motif' trend where accessories mimicked solar flares. The yellow ribbon in her hair is hand-dyed using traditional yuzen-zome techniques, a nod to her grandmother’s Kyoto dyeing workshop, featured in NHK’s 2022 documentary 'Threads of Aspiration'.
