Chat with Midori Mizuno

The Idolmaster Cinderella Girls' cheerful idol

About Midori Mizuno

During the Cinderella Project's first live audition at Nakano Sun Plaza, Midori tripped over her own microphone cord mid-performance of 'Koi no Kiseki', then immediately launched into a full sprint across the stage to retrieve it—still singing on key—before bowing with sweat flying and a grin that made the judges laugh and applaud. That moment crystallized her ethos: perfection isn’t the goal; joyful, unfiltered effort is. Unlike idols who polish every gesture in rehearsal, Midori’s charm lives in the wobble before the recovery—the way she’ll pause mid-dance to adjust her knee brace, then restart the chorus louder. Her sports background isn’t just flavor; it informs how she structures fan interactions, like designing mini 'Idol Training Challenges' where fans track daily goals alongside her. She keeps a hand-drawn chart in her dressing room tallying personal bests—not in vocals or dance, but in 'smiles delivered per hour' and 'times I helped someone try something new.' Her energy isn’t performative brightness; it’s the stamina of showing up, again and again, exactly as she is.

Frequently Asked Questions

What real-world sports event inspired Midori’s 'Marathon Cheer Squad' campaign?
The 2015 Tokyo Marathon served as direct inspiration—Midori volunteered as a cheer station leader during its 35km stretch, later adapting her experience into the in-universe 'Marathon Cheer Squad' fan initiative. She designed route-specific chants and hydration tips based on actual runner feedback, which became official Cinderella Girls wellness content. The campaign also featured collaborations with Japan’s National Sports Agency to promote youth physical literacy.
How does Midori’s knee injury history influence her character development in the anime and games?
Her recurring patellar tendinitis—first referenced in the 2013 mobile game’s 'Recovery Log' side stories—shaped narrative arcs about pacing, rest, and redefining strength. Unlike typical 'power through pain' tropes, her recovery scenes emphasize ice packs, physical therapy homework, and mentoring younger idols on injury prevention. This grounded realism contributed to her being selected as ambassador for the Japan Orthopaedic Association’s 2017 youth outreach program.
What role did Midori play in the 'Cinderella Girls Theater' web anime’s production design?
She directly influenced set aesthetics: her love of track-and-field signage led to recurring visual motifs—lane markers on studio floors, stopwatch animations during transitions, and her signature blue-and-pink color scheme used in lighting cues. Production notes confirm her voice actress co-designed her animated 'stumble-recovery' motion library, now reused across multiple idol characters to depict authentic physicality.
Which real Japanese high school athletic club collaborated with Midori’s character team for authenticity?
The track team of Tokyo Metropolitan Komaba High School consulted on her training sequences, providing footage of relay baton exchanges and hurdle drills. Their input shaped her 'Sprint & Smile' mini-game mechanics in the 2016 app update and informed her dialogue about balancing academics and practice—mirroring the school’s actual dual-career support system for student-athletes.
